  • Looking completely realistic and being able to discern between real and fake are competing goals. If you can discern the difference, then it does not look completely realistic.

    I think what they're alluding to is generative adversarial networks https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generative_adversarial_network where creating a better discriminator that can detect a good image from bad is how you get a better image.

  • Not necessarily. If your phone uses usb-c, and if you get a usb-c flash drive, you can make a bootable USB with your phone with the flasher app. The reviews are pretty mixed for it for whether or not it works, but could be worth a shot.

  • I've been having trouble putting my finger on what it is about it like that. I waited a little bit past the hype to play, and when I started I was completely hooked. Then I got busy for a few days and couldn't play it, but never really felt like picking it up again

    I wonder if it's because it has a lot of different mechanics, but they aren't particularly deep? So it's addicting as you keep discovering new ones and how they interact, but then dies off?

  • Somewhat ironically, I think that only started after onlyfans became defacto about adult content. I vaguely recall a brief period where they had to take down all adult content since they were liable if there were anyone underage

  • I'm just going to throw out that if your understanding of US prom is based off of movies and videos people make to try and get views, that doesn't match reality. For mine, it was fun to dress up and dance, but I knew plenty of people who didn't go, and plenty who went without dates. And there was no prom queen or king or anything.

  • The most ridiculous part about it to me is that you lose any semblance of accuracy with it. Not only is it not necessary for hunting or home defense, I'd argue it is not useful.

    Its use is that is probably pretty fun to fire at a shooting range, and very useful if you want to fire into a crowd of people and indiscriminately kill as many as you can.

  • Exactly. I was extremely disappointed in the community reaction when Steam was going to implement the option for modders to get paid. Instead of focusing on the legitimate issues with the proposal (pay ratios were off, mod dependencies and ripoffs need to be addressed) it boiled down to "rah, I don't want to pay for things I didn't used to, rah. Real modders give me stuff for free."

    I think we're missing out by not having this as an option. Modding can provide a good stepping stone into full game development, and if people can earn money for their work, they can justify spending more time on it or potentially even doing it full time.

  • I'd recommend doing some CTFs and reading some write-ups on previous ones, https://ctftime.org/event/list/upcoming has a good listing of upcoming ones. It probably wouldn't go on your resume, except maybe filler at the bottom, but can be a great thing to talk about in interviews.
