MJ12 Detachment Agent

  • Depends on the game, for RPGs I tend to agree.

For strategy games (that are sandbox based), sometimes achievement hunting can allow you try novel approaches.

  • Been meaning to try this game. Might as well get it on Epic (which thankfully supports all regions).

That being said, I've only made one purchase, an early version of Against The Storm from way back in the day.

  • I have yet to try it, but if you like city-builders / economic strategy games, Microlandia seems to be well liked.

  • But I do take umbridge with a lot of the “why you should switch to Piefed” rhetoric being based in bizarre “Tankie triad” conspiracism.

"Stalin did nothing wrong and never killed millions!"

"If you get killed by a brutal commie regime, that automatically makes you a counter-revolutionary who deserved it"

From davel, an ML admin no less!

  • Every account has a Social Credit Score.

Keep in mind ostentatious posturing about alleged belief in free speech e.g. hyperbolic use of terms like "Social Credit Score" or repetition of common copytext/keywords "echo chamber" is not universally perceived as a good thing.

If you've ever lived in a country where people understand the value of free speech (without constant tedious self-aggrandization on this topic) this stuff comes off as childish.

When I say "understanding the value of free speech", I mean the understanding that free speech includes the ability to choose your moderation policies depending on context.

He has hardcoded links to his ideology into the sidebar

Again, framing this issue as "promotion of ideology" is not going to fly.

Believe it or not, but having a sidebar with "Misinformation & disinformation" is not as big of a thing as you think it is. I would even argue that "COVID skeptics" wouldn't give a shit about it because they actually understand the meaning of the term "promotion of ideology".

You're welcome to assume I am misinformed, I hate free speech or I am being malicious. Whatever works, I am just sharing a different perspective (from someone who lived in the US and does not find American-style freedom polemics to be in the least convincing).

  • Not if you do a search for a specific topic/keyword.

You can't sort the table of results by column and the "sort type" dropdown doesn't function cleanly.

Although this might be tied the darkly-compact theme I am using.

  • You're so close to getting it! ;)

I knew that tankie knew exactly what I was saying and was playing dumb:

wtf are you even talking about

  • The White Man's Burden with fake commie characteristic!

  • Brah, "touch grass bla bla" is pretty stale by this point.

Btw, it's winter in the northern hemisphere!

  • Totally!

They don't look at you and see a demagogue who is roleplaying online, oh no.

It's funny how you talk big about the "global south" and "actually-existing socialist states" and yet you have a very orientalist and honestly racist worldview.

You think people in Cuba or say Vietnam are idiots who can't see through basic bullshit.

  • On Piefed you get the most active communities in search (using similar metrics/ranking systems as reddit), it makes a lot more sense than on Lemmy which ranks search by sub numbers as opposed to MAU/WAU (so you get a lot of dead communities as #1 on the Lemmy WebUI).

  • The communities are all connected. It doesn't really matter how you access them.

Perhaps someone else can highlight a piefed instance with a WebUI option similar to old Reddit.

  • I moved to Piefed ~6 months ago (after about a year of Lemmy), so I am not part of this wave (although I think there was a mini-wave when I joined), that being said, welcome to all newcomers!

Shameless self-promotion; if you like gaming, check out the sidebar of this community:

    !strategy_games@piefed.world

It links to a bunch of active gaming communities, both general/mainstream and indie focused.

  • Bold words coming from a supporter of russian genocidal imperialism!

And please don't play dumb! We both know the overwhelming majority of tankies only speak English and at absolute best may have visited Europe for a week 20 years ago (let alone Cuba or China).

  • The sad thing is that on some level indie games do get pushed out by shovelware on a certain level.

  • Like with everything in life, it depends on the reviewer.

I would argue most experienced, professional reviewers know how to review in a diplomatic manner that highlights interesting elements, while warning about weaknesses.

  • Very cool, love the 90s vibes.

  • I've play Ostriv a lot.

The current build is very playable. There are many 1.0 release games that are in a far worse state (even with post release patches).

I would just try it out if I were you. The game is a lot of fun as it is.

  • I am a big fan of Timberborn, but if we go all pedantic about it, Timberborn's flood mechanics aren't all that realistic.

A game that came somewhat close to realistic flood mechanics was Pharaoh/Cleopatra (1999/2000). Even though it used an abstract/statistical model (due to the technical limitations of the time), it felt a lot closer to reality than Timberborn even if there were some gamey elements like how well you respected Osiris.
