  • There was a radio show back in the day that did a segment called "What did Jesse Jackson say." They'd play a clip of him talking, then people would call in trying to understand/guess what he said (they used official transcripts as the basis). Sometimes they're go ages with all the guesses being wrong.

  • Yes, though most of them use the chickens that are close to their sell-by date, so not a lot of loss,.

  • I live alone now, and I get less motivated to cook for just myself, but today I felt like I needed to eat healthy. I got a rotisserie chicken and made a nice sandwich with it, pulled most of the meat off the bone and put it in the fridge, then simmered the carcase with celery, onions, carrots, bay leaf, thyme, and salt until it was reduced way down. Strained that into a container, and tomorrow I'll make chicken soup with that, some more of the veggies, and some little potatoes I have leftover. I'll have several meals with a few cheap ingredients. Super cost effective, healthy, and delicious.

  • Deeply religious folks often believe that if you swear on a bible to tell the truth, then lie, you'll go to hell. If you aren't religious, it means nothing. For others it's a spectrum in between.

  • My dad was friends with William Campbell. He was a funny guy. One time I ran into him at a Walmart and he had a bunch of action figures in his cart. He said they'd made one of his Trek character and he was going to give them to his grand kids. He seemed really pleased that they'd made the figure of him.

  • It's likely for activating voice input, but you didn't give the keyboard app permission to use the mic or something. Usually on keyboard apps there's a key you long press to get to settings, and you might be able to get rid of it there.

  • Makes it sound like it's part of your keyboard app

  • I've never hated anyone to the degree I hate trump, but I'm not sure the OP is accurate. What she said is:

The leader of the Pedophile Protection Party is trying to deflect attention from his name being all over the Epstein files.

At least in Somalia they execute pedophiles not elect them.

So it's pretty clear she's talking about Trump. Not that I disagree with her.

  • Honestly, I feel the same way. This "he who shall not be named" thing is dumb. If the song is offensive, it's still going to be offensive if you replace it be saying "the N word" or whatever. But I'd also go back to the "know your audience" thing. If there's someone in ear shot who is going to be triggered by a white person singing it, then maybe don't sing it.

  • Oh, duh, that makes sense

  • Oh, thank you. Is it pronounced like 'A'?

  • We always told our kids that if we heard them saying something hurtful, they were going to get in trouble, whether or not they used a cuss word. If they used a cuss word in a way that wasn't hurtful, we didn't care. The caveat being that lots of other adults, including many teachers, do care, so they should watch their audience.

By the same token, if they were singing a song or quoting someone that used a cuss word, we'd rather they say the word than self-censor it. If everyone know what word you mean, what's the point?

  • I'm not sure what that refers to, and I'm not getting it from the replies.

  • Yeah, but he does struggle with a lot of things. Pretty sure he also has ADHD. I know folks who were helped immensely by meds.

  • My adult son is clearly on the spectrum (seems to avoid getting diagnosed, though I think it would do him a lot of good). When he was very young, he would come home in tears if another kid was chewing gum in class, which was against the rules. That kind of thing is still a huge issue for him (rule breaking, not gum chewing).

  • Good point, though the person you're responding to only said it didn't have a sequel.

  • Unlike reddit, the rate of new posts here isn't too huge to keep up with, so my advice to new folks is always to browse by new/all for a while. If you see things you like, you can subscribe to the communities. Then, after a while, you'll have a bunch of subscriptions and can change to subscribed if you prefer.

  • A remake isn't a sequel

  • Oh, okay. Again, I don't know much about him.
