Like a fart in the wind

  • That sadly maybe a requirement. Let’s hope not haha

  • I find it odd to protect children they will stalk the hell out of us but won’t arrest known pedophiles …

    I hate the world

  • There is a huge difference between waiting for an update and installing a game that may not work. It’s a huge difference then fiddling with settings and configs to get it to run smoothly or not crash

  • They can gate it , and still have you install it. Doesn’t mean they have to modulate it out. If sub === home disable things

  • You are correct and I’m amped for it !

  • Microsoft has no interest in scaling back windows especially for the sake of user experience. The want Ai in your face they want ads for you to upgrade to office 365.

So while they could do all of this even with a modified version of Windows 11 , they won’t.

  • To me there is some value in having a true console experience. Put a disc in you know it works. Download a game and it plays as good as you can.

Even with Steam Deck you can download games that won’t work or won’t work well.

A lot of people don’t have the patience for that. And so long as consoles can stay under the PC equivalent price I think there will be value.

  • No matter how you slice it, it’s going to be emulation. And people will and already can emulate without Microsoft’s “experience”. I doubt it will even have an optical drive!

In fact I’d argue there is no reason to wait for their hardware. Buy or build something now. You can play all the same games. Get an emulator and do the same …

  • Yeah it can be , and Steam already did it and better. But it’s still not a console experience. It’s closer but it’s not equivalent. And for what Xbox has represented this isn’t it …

  • If your going Pc pre built route to me Valve built is the answer.

But to me this more lies with concerns with a true blue console experience.

Most people believe Microsoft will have little no success with this strategy either. Outside of hopes to “disrupt” steam machines market share I can’t see this going anywhere.

No matter how you slice it , I think it’s over.

  • Games @lemmy.world

Xbox as a platform is officially dead

  • Everytime a nextfest comes along I am reminded with how over saturated the market can be. How many online survival games do we need ? How many moba rouguelike hero shooters do we need ? How many cozy farming life simulators ?You make a drinking game out of It, you may die of alcohol poisoning.

Most of it is trash and some at best is mediocre. The only standout to me was WildBlue being a fun StarFox clone. And the best okish ones were Far Far West and Dark Haven. Honorable mention to Toxic Commando. But none of them super original or something I don’t already own something exactly like it ..

  • Yes just hide behind an object you are totally anonymous and invisible. Just ask my cat

  • Because Nintendo never figured out Blast Processing. Crucial in developing on most platforms …

  • This further proves my theory Lemmy is just a bunch of tech savvy cats

  • Elation is a moment. And honestly that’s fleeting. When most people think of happiness, they are really feeling elation. Happiness is a state of mind. With happiness it’s more or less being content and enjoying your big picture ..

  • The cutest freeloader

  • It’s a catch22. After that generation things became a lot easier to develop for across the board. At the same time I believe became easier to develop the console. Rather than build chipsets entirely in house you just contract a chip manufacturer. And shockingly when your competitor uses the same company things get samey.

I don’t know if this was ever avoidable. The capabilities of modern day processors would be hard to fathom console companies building their own unique variants on. I’d argue if they did consoles would cost even more now than they already do.

It’s interesting to think what could have been. Definitely would have made console reveals more interesting. And even ports more interesting. But I can’t sure for sure better ..

  • I called those “soft exclusives” and I argue it killed Sony in the 7th console generation. Metal Gear , Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, Ridge Racer were all exclusive because the publisher made enough money on one console. Then the Xbox had its small time to shine. And boy did Sony regret it..

(GTA and MGS eventually had releases but much later on)

  • Gamers are being shown more then ever their buying older games not newest ones. Part of this is the eshitification of the industry.

The problem is the ports a lot of the time are awful.
