The First Step Is Always the Hardest

Important

As with all of my long-form, well organized, (mostly) grammatically correct posts that I have been writing for over a year, no AI was used in the making of this post. Every word I write on my own, and I spend hours writing and editing these posts. One of my posts was removed for being "AI slop", which hurt, because it was one I was most proud of writing. From that incident, I considered no longer posting on Lemmy, but I still felt my work is needed, so here I am again.

It's very obvious that there are human mistakes and human additions to my posts that cannot be replicated by AI. It was not the first time one of my posts has been accused of being written AI, but I want it to be the last. There are people who enjoy writing and will put in the work to actually write a piece, such as me. I will prove that I am human by any means necessary.

The content I write is not designed to be short, nor is it designed to be summarized in a short manner. If you are not someone who

Firefox alternatives comparison - asking for advice/opinion

Meta note : am not sure if this is on topic for this community, please tell me if it is not. I could not find rules, so I assume it's okay, but i'll remove it if its not. (Also, please consider the info given here with precaution, for they are only based on people feedback and media report, not any technical certainty).

So, after the recent Mozilla privacy drama, I saw multiple recommendations of alternative browsers, each one with their pros and cons. I was trying to get a better understanding of which one was good/bad for which reasons, and I thought i might share it here so people with more knowledge can correct my takes.

Here is what I could get so far, based mostly on Lemmy comments and Wikipedia pages. This is aimed at browser that share some of Firefox values (foss, independency, (maybe) privacy, etc), so I excluded Chrome, Edge, and others. I'm open to any feedback/infos/browser suggestions to get a more accurate summary !

How to judge which addon/ extension to install?

I'd like to make an informed decision on extensions I install. Usually I read about people caring about browser extensions. I install extensions in vscode, in zed, gnome, kde and probably in a lot of other tools like bash as well.

Usually, I do not think much about security/ privacy. I only install what I want/ need and delete what I do not need.

How can I judge which extension to install and which not? There are extensions releasing builds regularly but the last release of public code on github was years ago. Downloads and stars give a hint on popularity. With popularity the people who will look into the code increases but if there's no code, there's nothing to look into. And just because it's not popular, it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad software.

How do you judge which extension to install?

The smart(shit)ification of TVs pisses me off.

I absolutely hate "smart" TVs! You can't even buy a quality "dumb" panel anymore. I can't convince the rest of my family and friends that the only things those smarts bring are built-in obsolescence, ads, and privacy issues.

I make it a point to NEVER connect my new 2022 LG C2 to the Internet, as any possible improvements from firmware updates will be overshadowed by garbage like ads in the UI, removal of existing features (warning: reddit link), privacy violations, possible attack vectors, non-existent security, and constant data breaches of the manufacturers
