Extreme Rollback
We have some bad news. I've had to rollback to the the 9th. We are running out of disk space and I tried all kind of things to free up space, and they all are not working. The best I can do is remove certain communities and try and prune when I can, but I don't know what to do at this point.
The only way is to I guess upgrade space, but I don't know how long that will last. I'd like some thoughts about it, I guess.
Second Server Rollback + Communities Removed
So trying to diagnose the issue, it seems there are spam spikes from outside of our server, but in trying to federate with these events, it starts running our CPU of the server at 100% and errors out. When I restart it during that, it seems to have issues and I have to rollback.
Thankfully, we had a rollback from last night this time, but for now that means I will be removing the largest non-art communities that would get spammed, such as memes, news, and politics from the large big servers. This means that this instance will probably be more useful just for art only for the time being. Many mobile clients allow you to login to multiple accounts on different servers, so you may need to do that to get better access to non-niche content.
There will be an eventual lemmy update that will create a federation queue that addresses this, but for now, we have to work with what we have.
Server Rollback
I've hit some kind of roadblock with not being able to update things because the server itself is running out of space, causing me being unable to update things. So for this reason I rolled back the server, losing some recent posts.
As such, I will be banning and purging history of some of the biggest and most active meme subs. I do not wish to limit your access to these subs, I enjoy them too, but I feel it's more important to be able to browse our art sections rather than meme things, where you could try a different account on a bigger and more supported instance.
It is also now time that I will have to pay for the servers, the free account trial has run out. I should be able to cover it, but if you'd like to help out, there is always my ko-fi should you choose! The cost of a month of the server is only $10 with backups, so not much is needed.

So, the instance this community is hosted on is being sunset due to no-life piece of shit degerate DDoSing script kiddie bitches targeting a relatively small music-based Lemmy instance. As pathetic as it is that this is how some loveless freak losers choose to spend their time and money, the sooner I react to this roadblock, the more of this community can be preserved.
I don't think a full community migration on Lemmy is possible yet, so we're gonna have to start over from scratch.
Lemmy.studio looks good I think. Music-based, only 2 blocked instances, open to new communities. Waveform.social seems to mostly house communities for electronic music, while Lemmy.studio at least has an emo community where mfs are posting The World Is A Beautiful Place albums. I think it'll be a better fit for us overall.

Un patch a été fait pour corriger une des causes de cette vulnérabilité et est aujourd'hui appliqué à jlai.lu, sans pour autant avoir la certitude qu'il s'agit du seul vecteur d'exploitation.
Cette vulnérabilité permet d'injecter du JavaScript sur la page que vous consultez et a été exploitée pour extraire les informations suivantes :
D'après mes investigations, jlai.lu n'a pas été ciblée et n'a donc pas été impactée.
Par mesure de précaution, j'ai procédé à l'invalidation de tous les tokens d'authentification des utilisateurs de l'instance après avoir passé le patch. Cela va donc vous forcer à vous ré-authentifier, et empêcher quiconque possède un de vos anciens token d'utiliser votre session.

We need to apply the 'Undetermined' language option
UPDATE: Tom has now added the Undetermined language option to our instance. To make sure you can see the majority of Lemmy content from within your feddit.uk account, do the following:
Click your profile name - click settings - scroll down to the Languages box (not interface language) - hold down Ctrl (cmd on Mac) and select both English and Undetermined. On mobile browser: Tap the Languages box and make sure both are selected - scroll down and click save
You can also select any other languages which are beneficial to you.
If you don't see everything listed in the box, try refreshing the page.

Server Maintenance at 11pm
Hey guys, just to let you know I'm upgrading the server tonight to a dedicated server which should improve the speed of the site significantly. It shouldn't take too long and might resolve some issues we were having on the instance.
At the moment, the server has been running on shared hosting which is cheap hosting where the server that runs the website is shared among many users. I upgraded it this morning but it didn't seem to help at all so I'm opting for a dedicated instance.
Over the last few days we've seen a good number of users join the instance and I've had a good number of donations from some great people!
My intentions are to run this server for as long as I can even if I'm putting some of my own money into it. I know some people may be worried about an instance like this being hosted by one person but I promise I'll keep it up and keep regular backups just in case I can't host it anymore or something happens to the server!
