Friends. There is not enough Pixies in this Community or in your life. Go and listen to the whole of Doolittle, right now. That's an order.

The Wonder Stuff - Don't Let Me Down Gently

I mentioned Miles Hunt in my previous She Makes War post. So I want to post a Wonder Stuff song.

Don't have time to write that much about this, so here is their Wikipedia page.

El Vez with The Sugarcubes - Got a Lot O' Livin' To Do

yewtu.be EL VEZ w/ The Sugarcubes. Feb 19, 1989 NYC

We were all poster children for PETA's Rock Against Fur campaign. The now gone Palladium in NYC. This was filmed by Phranc! 4 Elvettes, Pinky, Julia Sloan, Michelle Chenelle & Erica Paige. We rehearsed this Elvis tune in our dressing room before performing it that evening. I can't remember if this w...

EL VEZ w/ The Sugarcubes. Feb 19, 1989 NYC

At this stage of December, my thoughts often turn to El Vez's (the Mexican, punk rock Elvis) Christmas songs. This led me to uncover this gem from the El Vez archives. A backstage jam with The Sugarcubes, featuring backing vocals from Bjƶrk!

The Perfect Disaster - Time To Kill

Probably the most enduring feature of this song and the album that it is from, is that Josephine Wiggs was the bass player for this band. She, of course, went on to join The Breeders.

I can't say much more about them, as they escaped my attention until just now. They did have a tinge of the Jesus and Mary Chain about them, so it wasn't a surprise to read that they had toured together at one point.

Tall Tales And True - Trust

Something for you if you like stuff like The Waterboys or similar.

Matthew de la Hunty fronted Tall Tales And True, a band formed in 1983 in Sydney. He was joined by Paul Miskin on bass and Willie McCracken on drums.

In the Australian music environment of the late 80's, the sounds of bands like The Triffids and The Go-Betweens found wider audiences. This paved the way for TTaT, along with The Killjoys, The Hummingbirds, Sea Stories and others in the independent music scene. I remember being quite taken with 'Trust' when it came out.

Lemonheads - Luka

yewtu.be [MUSIC VIDEO] LEMONHEADS "LUKA"

got this from a network that was still good and played EVERYTHING. NOW the piece of crap corporate channel became the "lowest common denominator" culture for teens 12-25 channel. got this from a network that was still good and played EVERYTHING. now it's programming is the same every damn day...

[MUSIC VIDEO] LEMONHEADS "LUKA"

This cover of Suzanne Vega's hit song 'Luka' was on Lemonheads' third album, Lick, that came out on the indie label, Taang! A couple of albums later, after signing to the major label, Atlantic Records they hit the big time with another cover…Simon and Garfunkel's, 'Mrs Robinson' (1992).

For their first few albums, Lemonheads (the definite article was only commonly used later on) had songwriting and singing duties shared between Ben Deily and Evan Dando. Deily left after Lick was released, effectively making the band a vehicle for Dando.

Also worth checking out is 'Mallo Cup' and 'Circle Of One', both Dando compositions. '7 Powers' and 'Anyway' are examples of Deily's writing and singing.

Galaxie 500 – Strange

Existing on the same branch of the rock family tree as the Velvet Underground, The Chills, Spacemen 3, The Feelies and Yo La Tengo, Galaxie 500 formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1987.

Dean Wareham's quavering voice rings out over his chiming guitar, with the solid backing of Naomi Yang on bass and Damon Krukowski on drums, on this classic track from the On Fire album.

The band's later work with Luna (Wareham) and Damon & Naomi (Krukowski and Yang) is also worthy and I may post some tracks from them.

Electronic - Getting Away With It

Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and Bernard Sumner (New Order) formed Electronic and roped in Neill Tennant on vocals, with Tennant's Pet Shop Boys partner, Chris Lowe contributing as an uncredited song writer. Later, they also collaborated with former Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos. What a supergroup!

I am familiar with the first 2 of the 3 albums they released and both of them are pretty good. This track is from the first, self-titled album that came a couple of years after the release of the song as a single.
