Isreali commandos taking Gaza-bound aid ship, Madleen, to Isreal

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/31397537

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Madleen’s crew is being taken to Israel after Israeli commandos seized the vessel in international waters. The Madleen ship, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was close to 100 miles [160km] from Gaza when it was stopped. The ship was carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinians starving because of Israel’s siege. Israel’s most recent total blockade began on March 2, and has only partially lifted under mounting international pressure.

Madleen Gaza Flotilla Live Tracker: Israeli Forces Intercept the Madleen, Cut Off Comms, Kidnap Crew

Update: I will no longer be updating this thread. New Information will be coming soon undoubtedly.

(01:40 GMT) Israel does not have authority over Gaza waters

A video obtained by Al Jazeera shows a uniformed officer telling the people on board the Madleen there are other means for delivering aid, before the ship was intercepted. “If you wish to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, you’re able to do so through the port of Ashdod,” the uniformed officer says. “We have established channels and distribution centres.” However UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese told Al Jazeera this is not accurate. “Israel has no authority over Gaza. This is the thing. Israel needs to end the siege.” “The people of Gaza need to be helped.”

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Israeli authorities intercepted the Madleen. “The “selfie yacht” of the “celebrities” is safely making its

Aus Election Day 2025 - Pro-Palestinian protester confronts Finance Minister Katy Gallagher

At a busy inner-city Canberra polling booth, a man confronted the incumbent finance minister with accusations of genocide.

Labor ACT senate candidate Katy Gallagher was leaving the Lyneham Public School polling booth when she was approached by James Godfrey, spokesperson for pro-Palestinian group Freedom Flotilla Coalition.

"You're a minister in this government and you're doing nothing," Mr Godfrey yells at Senator Gallagher.

"Palestinians in Gaza are being starved at the moment.

"Sixty days plus of no food, no water, no medicines and no fuel and your government is complicit in this genocide."

Pro-Palestinian protester confronts Labor Senator Katy Gallagher

Mr Godfrey says a Freedom Flotilla ship carrying aid bound for Gaza was recently attacked by drones.

"Our ship's been attacked in international waters off the east coast of Malta," he tells reporters afterward.

"There's been fires on board, and we're trying to transpo

Palestinian Christians reject U.S. Catholic Bishops collaboration with pro-Israel group - mondoweiss

cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/4533650

Palestinian Christians are condemning a move by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to collaborate with a leading pro-Israel advocacy group on an online tool that aims to define Palestinian resistance as antisemitic.

In a letter sent late last month from Kairos Palestine to the USCCB Committee’s head, Bishop Timothy Broglio, sixteen Palestinian Christian leaders representing Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant denominations and church organizations express their deep disappointment regarding the USCCB’s endorsement of the American Jewish Committee’s online resource, Translate Hate. The bishops’ Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, in partnership with the AJC, added its own annotations to the AJC’s resource, which offers glossary of “antisemitic terms, phrases, conspiracies, cartoons, themes, and memes” and titled it, Translate Hate: The Catholic Edition.

Red Crescent releases video showing Israeli murder of first responders

cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/4525978

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has published mobile phone footage taken by a slain Palestinian paramedic refuting Israel's account of why its soldiers opened fire on a convoy of ambulances and a fire truck on 23 March, killing 15 rescue workers.

. The video shows the vehicles moving in the dark with their headlights and emergency flashing lights switched on. Israeli forces then opened fire on the vehicles for several minutes.

The Israeli military initially denied the vehicles had their headlights or emergency signals on when its forces opened fire on them.

At least two emergency workers can be seen stepping out of the vehicles wearing reflective clothing. The rescuer filming the video with his phone is heard reciting Islamic prayers before being killed.

One rescuer can be heard in the video saying, "Forgive me, mother. I just wanted to help people. I wanted to save lives."

Palestinians endure another festive season under genocide - Electronic Intifada

cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/4507353

During the Eid el-Fitr, the holiday at the end of Ramadan, Muin Abu Al-Mehza, 58, would usually celebrate together with his family and go visit relatives, as per tradition.

Muin has two sons and two daughters. One daughter moved to Kuwait with her husband. But his other children live close by, and his oldest son, Sami, 31, built an apartment for his family above Muin’s home.

The holidays were always a time for celebration for the family, as it generally is for everyone in Gaza.

But the past two festive seasons have been anything but joyous in the besieged and devastated coastal territory, home to 2.3 million people now facing starvation and Israel’s genocidal military violence again.

Last Ramadan, Muin’s family was struggling with an acute shortage of food. They had been displaced from their home and were struggling for shelter, warmth and water.

Spanish unions call for a General Strike in solidarity with Palestine on September 27

Sorry, the article is in Spanish, I've not found an English article about this strike.

From the article:

Almost silently and like a living tide, the call for the Strike for Palestine on September 27 , called by the unions CGT and Solidaridad Obrera (SO), has been gaining strength. Having launched the official call towards the end of August, little by little other non-majority unions (COS, SAT Granada, Co.bas...), organizations, groups from various sectors of society have shown their intention to subscribe to it. Dozens of posters in various territories of the Spanish State are already circulating, referring not only to continuing the strike but also to making it a day of active struggle throughout the day.

The General Strike has not the support of the two mayor Spanish unions (CCOO a
