Polish opposition condemns overturning of licences for conservative TV stations

Archive: https://archive.is/wgkWW

Poland’s opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party has condemned a court ruling overturning the granting of a terrestrial broadcasting licence to two conservative TV news stations. Its leader, Jarosław Kaczyński, says that the decision is further proof of how the government is “destroying democracy”.

However, he provided no evidence of government influence on the court’s decision. The ruling is also almost certain to be appealed, meaning the case could drag on for years, during which time the stations can continue using the licences they were granted.

  • Say what you will but going after a TV station watched by millions is going a bit far.

Tusk is essentially a Polish Orban. The only difference being that Tusk doesn’t have to own his private TV station because as a neoliberal he’ll be favoured by American TV station with the biggest market share in Poland. Even with this advantage KO/Tusk took public broadcaster as their own fiefdom, similar to PiS who knew this would happen and ran for their Republika lifeboat.

F all of those guys but this is just putting a burning oil barrel into the furnace of polarisation.

    • Tusk the Polish Orban?? That is taking something 'a bit far'.

      • Methods regarding capture of state media are the same as Kaczynski and Orban. Goals were supposed to be more noble but time and time again it’s just more of the same with slightly better aesthetics.
