#14: Star Trek: The Original Series, season 1, episode 13 "The Conscience of the King"
Written by Barry Trivers, directed by Gerd Oswald.
Stardates 2817.6 through 2819.8 (August 2267)
"I no longer treasure life, not even my own." - Kodos
The Enterprise is diverted from its course by Doctor Thomas Leighton (William Sargent), a childhood friend of Kirk's, simply to watch a performance of Macbeth. Doctor Leighton explains that he believes the lead actor, Anton Karidian (Arnold Moss), to be none other than Kodos the Executioner; a colonial governor that was responsible for killing over 4,000 people after the planet suffered a blight that caused a severe food shortage. Kirk is extremely skeptical of Doctor Leighton's accusation despite having been there with him all those years ago. Kodos was suppose to be dead. But once Doctor Leighton turns up dead himself, Kirk arranges to have Karidian and his troupe travel to their next destination as guests onboard the Enterprise in order to give him time to conduct his own investigation.
