Cara vs. Pixelfed

Has anyone used these?

I deleted my IG account last year and now I've been thinking of making one of these two my "main" platform, mainly as a way to show people IRL my photos and keep in touch rather than gather a following. I'm a hobbyist so finding clients is not a concern. Pixelfed is fediverse so that's nice but Cara doesn't allow AI which is also nice.

I made an account on both but have yet to invest a lot of time on either. I was wondering what people thought of these. Are people using them? How active is the community? Etc.
